The National Election Commission has announced an option for voters who have reasonable fear that they might not be able to cast their ballots at their registered polling station in the 2024 General Elections.
Issuing a statement, the Commission said such voters can request to cast their ballots at other polling stations, which will be allocated at the sole discretion of the Election Commission.
“Voters who have a reasonable fear that they may not be able to cast their ballots at their registered polling stations due to the situation in those areas can request the Election Commissioner to cast their ballots at a different polling station.”
“The said voters will be required to submit their written requests, along with their registered details, within a week of the announcement of nominations for the General Elections, which is on or before 01 October 2024,” the statement said.
According to the Election Commission, the request must be made at the Commission’s Office in Rajagiriya or their relevant District Secretariats.
The necessary request forms can be obtained from the area District Secretariats or Election Offices, and they can also be downloaded from the Election Commission’s website www.elections.gov.lk. (Newswire)
