Showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of Sri Lanka during the afternoon or night, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm can be expected at some places in the Eastern, Central, and North-central provinces. A few showers may occur in the coastal areas of the Southern and Western provinces during the morning too.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas around the island during the evening or night. Showers may occur at a few places in the sea areas from Colombo to Hambantota via Galle during the morning too.

Winds will be South-westerly in the sea areas around the island and wind speed will be 25- 35 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar.

The sea areas around the island can be slight to moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
