DIG Dhammika Kumara has been appointed as the new Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS), following the retirement of Major General Suresh Sallay, Ada Derana reported.
Sallay’s departure comes amid increasing pressure for his removal after being accused in the failure to prevent the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings, one of the worst terror attack against civilians in Sri Lanka’s history.
Sallay, however, has consistently denied the accusations.
The Centre for Society and Religion (CSR) recently called on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to ensure accountability for the victims of the bombings and sought Sallay’s dismissal in a formal appeal earlier this week. (NewsWire)
