Light showers are expected in several parts of Sri Lanka today, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Accordingly, several spells of showers will occur in Northern province and several spells of light showers may occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-eliya districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva and Eastern provinces during the evening or night.
Meanwhile, showers will occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas from Mannar to Kankesanthurai during the evening or night.
Winds will be South-westerly in the sea areas around the island and wind speed will be (25-35) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to (45-50) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankesanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankesanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil can be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island can be slight to moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
