Two French tourists who are visually impaired have been traveling across Sri Lanka, exploring the country’s scenic landscapes, rich culture, and renowned hospitality. Accompanied by a dedicated local guide, their journey has taken them from the coastal beaches to the highlands and cultural landmarks, leaving them with cherished memories of the island.

The travelers spoke to Newswire’s Azzam Ameen about their experiences, expressing their appreciation for Sri Lanka’s diverse offerings. “I have traveled to many places, but Sri Lanka is the best country, and I will certainly return,” one of the tourists said. She highlighted the hospitality and warmth of the Sri Lankan people, adding, “Sri Lankan people are so friendly and honest.”

Throughout their journey, the tourists were guided by Prageeth De Silva, a local tour guide who provided personalized care, ensuring they could experience the best of Sri Lanka. Perera took them to various attractions, where they could experience the beauty and culture of the island.

Among the places they visited, one of the tourists particularly enjoyed Kandy, known for its historical and cultural significance. “I loved Kandy the most,” she said, noting her appreciation for the city’s charm. She said that, despite visiting many countries, the experiences in Sri Lanka stood out as exceptional.

During their visit to Pasikuda, the tourists encountered a pleasant surprise—a chance meeting with Sri Lankan cricket legend Sanath Jayasuriya. The former cricketer, who was taking a break from his schedule, spent time chatting with the tourists. They shared their impressions of Sri Lanka and discussed their journey across the island. Jayasuriya invited the pair to a cricket match between Sri Lanka and the West Indies in Dambulla, adding to their memorable moments in the island.

Former cricketer and commentator Farveez Maharoof, who was with Jayasuriya during the meeting, also joined in the interaction, appreciating the enthusiasm and adventurous spirit of the tourists.

Chandra Wickramasinghe, who heads Thema Collection Resorts and hosted the tourists at the Malu Malu Resort in Pasikuda, noted that Sri Lanka has become a favored destination for differently-abled travelers. “Sri Lanka has been the go-to spot for differently-abled tourists because of its hospitality, care, and friendliness,” Wickramasinghe said. He spoke of the efforts made to ensure a welcoming environment for all visitors, regardless of their abilities.

Reflecting on their time in Sri Lanka, the tourists conveyed their gratitude for the warmth and assistance they received throughout their journey. They expressed a strong desire to return, drawn by the island’s natural beauty and the kindness of its people.
