The petition filed by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake seeking compensation of Rs. 500 million from former minister Johnston Fernando has been fixed for hearing in March next year.

Taking up for consideration the petition yesterday, the Colombo District Court fixed the hearing on 12 March 2025.

Filing the petition, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake accused former MP Johnston Fernando of having tarnished his reputation while addressing a meeting held at the Tangalle Municipal Council Hall in October this year.

Johnston Fernando is accused of making the statement while speaking at a meeting organised by a group introduced as the Joint Opposition, under the theme “Save National Resources, Stop Political Hunt”, held on 15 October. (Newswire)
