The atmospheric conditions are favourable for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of Sri Lanka today, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Thereby, showers or thundershowers will occur in most parts of the island during the evening or night. Showers will occur in the morning in several places over the coastal areas of the Western and Southern provinces and Ampara district.
Heavy showers of about 100 mm are likely at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, NorthCentral, Uva provinces and the Kurunegala district.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Pottuvil via Galle and Hambantota. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the other sea areas around the Island during the evening or night.
Winds will be Westerly or South-westerly in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Pottuvil via Galle and Hambantota, and variable in the other sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be 20-30 kmph.
The sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
