Five persons killed in road accidents reported in the last 24 hours

Five persons have been reported dead in separate road accidents reported within the last 24 hours ending at 06.00 am today. 

A 34-year-old pedestrian has died after being knocked down by a vehicle in the Boyagoda area along the Kurunegala- Kandy Road last night.

The deceased, a resident of Weuda, had died on the spot. The Mawathagama Police has launched an investigation to apprehend the driver of the vehicle, who had fled after the accident. 

An 18-year-old motorcyclist has died after crashing into a utility pole in the Thembiligasmulla area in Kiribathgoda last evening.

The motorcyclist, a resident of Kadawatha, had met with the accident after losing control of his vehicle. 

A 56-year-old cyclist has died after being knocked down by a motorcycle in the Kandaladi area along the Batticaloa- Trincomalee Road last evening.

Following the accident, the motorcyclist and cyclist had been admitted to the Valachchenai Hospital, during which the cyclist had succumbed to injuries.

A 66-year-old woman has died after being knocked down by a motorcycle in the Tholambugolla area along the Ambepussa- Trincomalee main road last evening.

The woman, motorcyclist and pillion rider had been admitted to the Galewala Hospital after which the woman had been transferred to the Dambulla Hospital, where she succumbed to injuries.

A 28-year-old motorcyclist has died after colliding with a container head-on while attempting to overtake a lorry on the Colombo- Ratnapura Road last night.

The motorcyclist has succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Eheliyagoda Hospital. The driver of the container has been arrested in connection to the accident. (Newswire)
