President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s National Peoples’ Power (NPP) confirms that the party has obtained a 2/3rds majority in the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
A senior NPP member told Newswire that the party is likely to get more than 150 seats in Parliament, which is the first time in Sri Lanka that a single party has achieved this feat under the Proportional Representation System.
With the final results of 18 districts being released so far, the NPP has secured 94 seats. (Newswire)
