The Government has decided to import up to 70,000 metric tonnes of Nadu Rice as a step to address the shortage of rice in the local market.
Minister of Trade Wasantha Samarasinghe said the rice will be imported through the Cooperative Wholesale Establishment (CWE), also known as Sathosa, and Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation.
He further said that Cabinet approval has been granted for the importation of Nadu Rice. (Newswire)
