A low-pressure area is likely to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal this week, around Saturday (23 Nov).
Thereafter, it is likely to intensify into a depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal in the next two days. The system may intensify further and move near the Eastern coast of Sri Lanka.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North central and Eastern provinces today. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere on the island during the evening or night.
Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces. Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces in the morning.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Winds will be easterly to north-easterly in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be 20- 30 kmph in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed can increase up to 40-45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Mullaittivu to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar.
The sea areas extending from Mullaittivu to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar can be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
