The Opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) alleges that the government has contradicted its earlier views concerning the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Speaking to the media, Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa said that the President’s speech on the Government’s Policy Statement clearly indicates that the new government intends to follow the IMF agreement forged by the previous regime.
“I think, the government was given a 2/3rd majority in Parliament not to implement the IMF agreement of the former government,” he said, expressing hope that the government will fulfil its earlier promises, particularly regarding renegotiating the IMF agreement.
“If the government is prepared, we are ready to provide our assistance to make the necessary amendments that are suitable for the public,” he said.
The Opposition Leader emphasized that at this juncture, it was essential to move forward by amending the IMF agreement to make it people-centric and with the acceptance of the IMF.
MP Sajith Premadasa made these remarks while speaking to the media yesterday, on the Government’s Policy Statement that was delivered in Parliament by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. (Newswire)
