November 29, 2024 at 2:46 PM

The deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, located about 260 km northeast of Trincomalee and 305km east-northeast of Kankasanthurai this morning, is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm and move northwestwards, towards the Tamil Nadu coast.

As such, the Department of Meteorology predicts that the prevailing showery and windy conditions in the Northern province are expected to continue further today and tomorrow.

Skies will be cloudy and showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern and Northcentral provinces and Trincomalee district. Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely in some places in the Northern province. Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces and Galle and Matara districts. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places elsewhere of the island in the evening or night.

Strong winds of about 60 kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, North-central, Northwestern, Eastern, Central and Southern provinces. The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. (Newswire)
