- Situation summary:
The death toll due to the inclement weather experienced across Sri Lanka has increased to 17, as of 06.00 am today.
According to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), 11 of the deaths are reported from Ampara, and one each from Badulla, Puttalam, Trincomalee, Vavuniya, and Jaffna.
No persons are reported missing, while 20 are reported to have sustained injuries in various disaster incidents.
A total of 469,910 persons from 139,603 families are severely affected across 24 districts.
The DMC said 23,537 persons from 7,394 families were placed in 202 safety shelters, while 116,034 persons from 45,368 families were placed in the houses of relatives.
- Landslide warnings:
The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) says landslide warnings issued to 09 districts have been extended until 04.00 pm today.
Yellow and amber alerts have been issued to some areas of the Badulla, Colombo, Gampaha, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, and Ratnapura Districts.
- Flood warnings:
The Irrigation Department has issued flood warnings due to a rise in the water levels of Mahaweli River, Deduru-Oya, and Malwathu Oya.
However, the flood situation in most areas has returned to normal with flood water receding.
- Tri-forces operations;
A total of 3183 officers from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Police are continuing relief activities in affected areas.
A total of 2080 Army officers, 520 Navy officers, 540 Air Force officers, and 43 Police officers are on duty to address disaster situations.
