The Excise Department has announced that the liquor manufacturing license of W.M. Mendis & Co. will be suspended from December 5 due to the company’s failure to settle excise taxes and surcharges amounting to Rs. 5.7 billion.
The department warned that continued noncompliance could lead to the suspension of other licenses held by the company after December 31.
The matter was brought to light during proceedings at the Court of Appeal, where it was revealed that 8 out of the 10 liquor manufacturing licenses issued to W.M. Mendis & Co. had already been suspended. (Newswire)
