The Department of Meteorology says the low-pressure area over the Southwest Bay of Bengal will likely continue to move West- Northwestwards towards the Tamil Nadu coast close to Northern Sri Lanka in the next 24 hours.
As such, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central, Eastern and Northwestern provinces today.
Heavy showers above 100mm are likely in some places in the Northern province. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places elsewhere during the evening or night.
Misty conditions can be expected in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Uva, Western and Northwestern provinces in the morning.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. (Newswire)
