The official Gazette notification confirming the resignation of Asoka Ranwala as Speaker of Parliament has been issued, signed by Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
According to the Gazette, Ranwala’s resignation is effective from December 13, 2024.
The government has confirmed that the new Speaker’s appointment will take place when Parliament convenes today.
Meanwhile the opposition has announced plans to propose a candidate for the vacant Speaker position. Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said that the proposal will have the consensus of all opposition parties. (Newswire)
