Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today presented all his academic certificates, following a request by Government Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa in Parliament.

Minister Jayatissa yesterday challenged the Opposition Leader to present his academic qualifications related to school as well as from the London School of Economics.

Responding to the minister, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa briefed the Parliament today on his education qualifications.

Presenting his pupil’s record sheets, MP Premadasa said he commenced his primary education at St. Bridget’s Convent in Colombo and moved to St. Thomas’ Preparatory, and then Royal College Colombo.

MP Premadasa pointed out that he had not sat for the GCE Ordinary Level Examination in Sri Lanka, as he had left the country after Grade 09.

Stating that he had, thereafter, pursued his education in the United Kingdom, MP Premadasa said that he had sat for his Ordinary Level and Advanced Level Examinations in the UK.

Refuting reports that he had failed to pass his Ordinary Level Examination, the Opposition Leader presented his UK qualifications, including school academic documents related to his UK education.

Furthermore, MP Sajith Premadasa also displayed the graduation certificate obtained from the London School of Economics (LSE), where he had pursued his degree.

The Opposition Leader also revealed that he was a holder of a Masters’ Degree in Public Management at the University of Maryland College Park in the USA, and had also followed a degree at the Open University, in which Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya had been a lecturer.

The education qualifications of Parliamentarians came into the spotlight after recent controversies surrounding the academic qualifications of Government MPs, which resulted in the resignation of the first Speaker of the new Parliament, Asoka Ranwala. (Newswire)
