The low-pressure area in the Southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to move further northwestwards towards the north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coast during the next 2 days.
According to the Department of Meteorology, as such, several spells of showers may occur in the Northern, Northwestern and Western provinces and Galle and Matara districts today.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Eastern and Uva provinces during the evening or night.
Misty conditions can be expected particularly in the Northern, North-Central, Central, Sabaragamuwa and Eastern provinces in the morning.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, the Naval and fishing communities engaging in activities in the Bay of Bengal are requested to be vigilant of rough seas.
According to the Met Department, several spells of showers will occur in the sea areas extending from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island.
Winds will be Northwesterly or Westerly in the sea areas around the island and speed will be 25-35 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 45-50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu and from Galle to Hambantota via Matara.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu and from Galle to Hambantota via Matara will be fairly rough at times.
