Colombo is set to dazzle residents and visitors alike with a vibrant display of Christmas and New Year decorations. This initiative transforms key landmarks across the city into breathtaking festive spaces, celebrating the holiday spirit.
The festivities which started from 19th December will go on till the 01stof January and multiple attractions will be added on and will feature concerts, stunning illuminations, including rope lights, architectural lighting, video projections, drone shows and fireworks.
Key highlights include:
– **Viharamahadevi Park**: The Tri-Forces bands and the Police band will perform from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Open Air Theatre from 22nd December 2024 to 25th December 2024.
– **Christmas Carnival**: Viharamahadevi Park (Greenpath Side) will host a carnival with food stalls and fun rides from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM daily till the 25th of December 2024.
– **Presidential Secretariat**: A mesmerizing 3D video mapping show, complete with sound and visuals, will be held from December 21st to 31st, from 8:00 PM to12.00 midnight. On Christmas Eve, 24th December and New Year’s Eve, 31st December the show will continue until 2:00 AM the following day.
– **Presidential Secretariat**: The Tri- Forces and Police will perform a Christmas Carol Concert at the Presidential Secretariat in Galle Face in the evenings from 22nd December to 25th December 2024 from 7.00pm to 8.00pm.
– **Illuminated Streets**: Rope light decorations will adorn key roads, including the stretch from the Presidential Secretariat to Galleface Roundabout, on Baladhaksha Mawatha behind ITC and Shangri La, from Kollupitiya Junction to Liberty Roundabout, Park Street/Baybrooke place and Duplication Road to HSBC traffic Light Junction beginning 23rd December.
– **Iconic Buildings**: Independence Square, Town Hall, and the Shangri-La Hotel lawn area will sparkle with architectural lighting, Christmas trees, and festive decorations, creating a magical atmosphere.
– **Lotus Tower Projection**: From December 23rd to January 01st, the Lotus Tower will feature festive projections, showcasing “Merry Christmas!” and “Happy New Year!” greetings.
**Drone Light Show**: A breathtaking display to welcome the New Year with synchronized drone choreography will be lighting up the night sky at Galle Face Green on 31st December 2024 at 11.50pm.
This initiative promises to enhance Colombo’s festive charm, offering residents and tourists a chance to immerse themselves in the joyous celebrations.
