Police report that a newborn was discovered abandoned near the Dematagoda flyover. The female infant, wrapped in a piece of cloth, was found following a tip-off from a passerby who alerted the Dematagoda Police.
Officers promptly transferred the baby to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children in Colombo. However, hospital authorities confirmed that the infant had already passed away upon examination.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the baby, who appeared to be in good physical condition, was born a day or two before being abandoned.
Police said that a resident of Dematagoda was arrested after reviewing CCTV footage. Investigations into the incident are ongoing. (NewsWire)
