An individual linked to a large-scale drug trafficking network operated by an overseas trafficker has been arrested with drugs worth over Rs. 25 million, the police reported.
The Mount Lavinia Crimes Investigation Unit apprehended the suspect with one kilogram of “ice,” 106 grams of heroin, and Rs. 197,000 in cash suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.
The police also seized an electronic scale used for measuring drugs, two high-value mobile phones used in the operation, and a handbag used to conceal the substances.
The 48-year-old suspect, a resident of Hena Road, Mount Lavinia, is alleged to have distributed drugs over an extended period to areas including Mount Lavinia, Piliyandala, Moratuwa, Boralesgamuwa, Panadura, and Dehiwala. The operation was reportedly managed based on phone instructions from an overseas trafficker identified as “ID.”
The suspect is currently being detained for questioning under a detention order issued on Saturday(21) by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court, following revelations about large-scale drug networks, police stated. (NewsWire)
