The body that was found inside the double cab that had been destroyed in a fire in the Batu-Oya area on the Polonnaruwa- Habarana Road recently has been identified as that of a 64-year-old man from the Dhekatana area in Gampaha.
The Minneriya Police said, as per preliminary investigations, the vehicle had been set on fire using combustible material.
The Police said a bag found close to the vehicle had contained an NIC and various documents belonging to a resident of Gampaha, helping identify the body found inside the burnt vehicle.
The bag found by the police had contained some clothes of the dead man, a copy of the NIC and a driver’s license.
Stating that the incident was surrounded by suspicious circumstances, the Police said investigations have been launched with the assistance of the Government Analyst’s Department, the Judicial Medical Officer and the area Magistrate. (Newswire/ Image – Dinamina)
