The police report that one person was killed and another injured in a shooting that took place today (4) in the Kapparathota area in Weligama.
The shooting was carried out by an unidentified group who arrived on three motorcycles and fled the scene.
Police further said that a 26-year-old resident of Kapparathota succumbed to his injuries, while a 29-year-old also from the same area, sustained injuries.
The police state that the victims were returning from the funeral house of a person who had died due to a tree falling at the Matara prison.
