Chairman of the Inter-Provincial Private Bus Owners Association Sarath Vijitha Kumara says a decision will be taken concerning the inspection of buses under the government’s ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ programme.
Addressing the media today, he said that the inspection programme should have been launched after notifying bus drivers and granting them a grace period.
Sarath Vijitha Kumara said innocent bus drivers and conductors were being penalised under the programme when they have not been provided adequate road facilities or other necessary requirements.
“Our drivers have not been provided with parking bays. They have not been provided rest points. These are people who do long-distance driving. If they drink water or touch their hair, they are being penalised,” he said.
Sarath Vijitha Kumara further warned that bus drivers might refrain from reporting to duty on Wednesday due to the current issue. (Newswire)
