Sri Lanka’s Cabinet of Ministers has approved 05 proposals related to cooperation with the Government of China in various sectors.
The Cabinet decisions come ahead of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s visit to China next week.
Accordingly, the Cabinet decisions are as follows;
- Continuously following the “One China Policy” by the Sri Lankan Government
The Sri Lankan government has continuously followed the “One China Policy” and, by that it is accepted that legitimate China is only the People’s Republic of China and Taiwan is only a province of China. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the fact presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism indicating that Sri Lanka further follows the same policy as it is and acts adhering to the same.
- Signing a memorandum of understanding between China Media Group and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau
A proposal has been forwarded to sign a memorandum of understanding between China Media Group and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau to create Sri Lanka as a pioneer tourist destination for Chinese tourists utilizing the modern technology and expertise of the China Media Group after the cooperation between the two parties. Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism to sign the said MOU.
- Signing the relevant protocol related to the export of chicken to the Chinese market
A proposal has been forwarded to examine, quarantine, and sign an agreement prepared for health requirements concerning the relevant procedure between the two countries to carry out the export of chicken to China from Sri Lanka with the mediation of the General Administration of Customs of China. Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation to sign the said agreement between the General Administration of Customs of China and his Ministry.
- Signing the Certificate of Handover between Sri Lanka and China concerning the project on supplying emergency humanitarian aid, including rice, fishing nets and pre-casted houses to Sri Lanka
The Government of China has provided the following emergency humanitarian aid worth 35.7 million Yuan for small-scale fishermen in the Northern and Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka.
* 75,000 fisheries nets for small-scale and low-income generating fishermen.
* 500 pre – casted houses for small-scale and low-income generating fishermen
* 1,630 tons of rice for small-scale and low-income generating fishermen
All these goods have been received by the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Marine Resources in the year 2024 and the rice and fisheries nets are being distributed currently among selected beneficiaries. Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Marine Resources to sign the said Certificate for providing emergency aid between Sri Lanka and China.
- Signing MOU between the Ministry of Health and Mass Media and institutions in China
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposals submitted by the Minister of Health and Mass Media to enter into agreements between the Ministry and the following institutions in China:
(i) Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Health and Mass Media and the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) of the People’s Republic of China.
(ii) Memorandum of Understanding between the Associated Newspapers Ceylon Limited and Xinhua News Agency of China.
(iii) Memorandum of Cooperation between the Department of Government Information and Xinhua News Agency of China
(iv) Memorandum of Understanding between Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and China Media Group
(v) Memorandum of Understanding between Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation and China Media Group. (Newswire)
