Sri Lanka recorded the highest monthly tourist arrivals for 2024 in December, with 248,592 visitors.
For the year, a total of 2,053,465 tourist arrivals were reported, reflecting a 38% increase compared to 2023.
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) reported tourism earnings of USD 3,168.6 million, a significant 53.2% increase from the previous year.
With this surge in arrivals, 2024 figures came close to pre-pandemic and pre-Easter attack levels, when 2.3 million tourists were recorded in 2018.
Tourist arrivals continue to trend upward in 2025, with 70,944 visitors recorded in the first nine days of January. (NewsWire)
