A 45-year-old security guard was found dead with head injuries at a coconut oil factory in the Baththuluoya area of the Mundalama Police Division on the morning of January 11.
The victim, identified as a resident of Halawatha named Wijayakatupotha, was on night duty when the incident occurred.
Factory employees discovered the body and reported that approximately Rs. 1.4 million had been stolen from a safe. The owner of the factory lodged a complaint with the Mundalama Police.
Later that evening, police arrested a 37-year-old suspect in the Baththuluoya area. The suspect, a factory employee, was found with Rs. 141,000 believed to be part of the stolen money.
The body was sent to the Puttalam Hospital mortuary for a postmortem following a magistrate’s inquiry. Investigations are being conducted by the Mundalama Police and the Puttalam Division Crime Investigation Unit.
