Sri Lanka will host a significant international arbitration event from January 15th to 17th, 2025, bringing together experts and practitioners to discuss key developments in the field. Organized by Anima Dispute Resolution, JB Law Chambers, and Niran de Silva K.C., the event aims to foster learning, skill development, and Colombo’s recognition as a venue for arbitration.
Day 1: Mock Arbitration Session
The event begins on Wednesday, January 15th, 2025, with a Mock Arbitration Session at the International ADR Centre (IADRC) in Colombo, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Participants will explore the procedural and legal aspects of interim applications while improving their advocacy skills under the guidance of three experienced arbitration professionals:
- Jacob Grierson, an English barrister and French lawyer, known for his extensive arbitration work in London and Paris.
- Niran de Silva K.C., a King’s Counsel specializing in high-value international commercial arbitrations based in London.
- Janaka Basuriya, a Sri Lankan attorney and advisor to the French Embassy, with expertise in commercial arbitration and mediation.
This session provides practical insights into arbitration processes, offering participants the opportunity to learn from the expert practitioners.
Day 2: Panel Discussions and Networking
On Thursday, January 16th, 2025, a panel discussion will take place at APIIT Law School from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, featuring the Day 1 speakers alongside Malik Laazouzi, a Professor of Law at Paris II Panthéon-Assas with expertise in investment arbitration and international contracts.
Day 3: Panel Discussion
The event concludes on Friday, January 17th, 2025, with a panel discussion at the Sri Lanka Law College Auditorium, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Attendees will gain further insights into arbitration practices, led by the same distinguished panel of experts.
