Jaffna District MP Archchuna Ramanathan has requested the Court of Appeal to provide an opportunity to file objections against the petition seeking an order to invalidate his election as a Member of Parliament.
MP Archchuna Ramanathan made the request via his lawyers to the Court of Appeal on Wednesday (Jan 15).
The petition calling to invalidate his election as a Member of Parliament has been filed by Social activist and Leader of the ‘Abhinawa Niwahal Peramuna’ Oshala Herath.
The petitioner claims MP Archchuna Ramanathan had violated the Parliamentary Elections Act by contesting the last General Election without resigning from his employment as a government doctor, and thus, was not qualified to hold the position of a Member of Parliament.
Taking into consideration the MP’s request to file objections, the judge informed him to make this request the next day as the bench had not been properly appointed.
The Judge thereafter, fixed the hearing of the petition for 31 January 2025. (Newswire)
