Sri Lanka secured a large foreign direct investment during President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s four-day state visit to China, with a $3.7 billion deal signed today for an oil refinery in Hambantota.
The agreement between Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Power and Energy and China’s Sinopec Corporation will establish a refinery capable of producing 200,000 barrels of oil per day, with a substantial portion allocated for export.
The investment aims to bolster economic growth and benefit communities in Hambantota, with broader impacts expected nationwide.
Key officials, including Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath and Transport Minister Bimal Ratnayake, attended the signing ceremony. (Newswire)
