The Police Media Spokesperson has announced that legal proceedings will be initiated against Jaffna District MP Archchuna Ramanathan for allegedly obstructing police duties in the Rambewa area of Anuradhapura.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the MP’s vehicle, equipped with unauthorized VIP lights, was stopped by traffic officers. A video of the encounter, which has gone viral on social media, shows the MP refusing to cooperate with the officers.
The police have also launched an inquiry into certain remarks made by the MP during the incident, which are reportedly being reviewed for their potential to disrupt peace and harmony among communities.
In the video, the MP can be seen verbally confronting the officers and questioning their actions.
“Are we not VIPs?” the MP asked, asserting that he should be afforded privileges similar to those of the President and Prime Minister.
The Police Media Spokesperson confirmed that further legal measures would be pursued as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident with facts reported to Anuradhapura court. (Newswire)
