An officer attached to the Department of Immigration and Emigration at the Welisara Detention Centre has been arrested by the Bribery Commission for soliciting a bribe of Rs. 500,000.
The officer had allegedly demanded the sum to release an individual detained for overstaying their visa.
Following a complaint, the Bribery Commission arrested the suspect during a sting operation.
Investigations are underway, and authorities have confirmed that legal action will be taken against the suspect. (Newswire)
