MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake alleged that Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof has paid for the Christmas light displays at the Galle Face and Duplication road.
“A festival was organized for Christmas where the Galle Face was lit up, there was a drone show as well as a concert. Who paid for these? Hanif Yusoof. Why would he pay for these? Hanif Yusoof must have some intention to show the government some spectacle. We have not heard of Governors spending like that,” Dassanayake said.
Responding to the allegation Leader of the House Bimal Rathnayake said he was unaware of who paid for the Christmas decorations and festivities. “The Governor is a reputed individual of this country. But he was not appointed to conduct business with the government. This is well known by all political parties, business leaders and the public,” he said.
Rathnayake added that it was impertinent to hurl absurd allegations against Yusoof who was not present in the House. “If he is making these allegations he should present the facts, not speak irresponsibly,” he added. (Newswire)
