A 43-year-old woman has been arrested on charges of having murdered a newborn child in the Chavakachcheri area.
The Police said information had been received that a newborn child had been murdered by being thrown into a well in the Muththia Watte area last morning.
Police investigations had found pieces of cloth with blood stains buried in a land belonging to a house close to the well.
The Police had also taken into custody a woman assumed to be the newborn’s mother.
The Chavakachcheri Police is conducting investigations into the incident. (Newswire)
