A video showing a woman being forcibly abducted by two individuals, one dressed as a police officer, has sparked widespread concern on social media.
The incident occurred on January 18, 2025, outside a private hospital hostel in Wellawatte.
Authorities identified the impersonator as a former police officer who had been suspended from duty for not reporting for work. He was arrested by the Wellawatte Police.
The abductors robbed the woman of approximately Rs. 31,500 and other valuables before abandoning her near Welikada.
Police confirmed that the van used in the abduction was rented. Investigations are ongoing to locate other suspects involved in the crime.
