A Russian couple was rescued from a near-drowning incident at Ahungalla beach on January 25 by the Ahungalla Police Lifesaving Unit.
The 51-year-old man and 46-year-old woman were caught in a strong current while swimming. Police Inspector Manoj Ariyarathna and Police Constables Sangeeth and Dulanjaya conducted the rescue.
Authorities are reminding swimmers, including tourists, to be cautious in areas with strong currents.
