Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was remanded for two days under the Money Laundering Act, has been granted bail.
After being produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court this morning, Yoshitha Rajapaksa was granted bail under two sureties of Rs. 50 million each.
Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the second son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Beliatta on Saturday.
At the time, it was reported that the arrest was made on the advice of the Attorney General, who had notified there was sufficient evidence for Yoshitha Rajapaksa to be named as a respondent in a land case valued at Rs. 34 million.
Yoshitha Rajapaksa was taken into custody after recording a statement before the CID related to an investigation into disputed land in Kataragama.
The case involves Yoshitha’s grandmother Daisy Forrest Wickremesinghe, also known as ‘Daisy Achchi’, at Sirimal Pedesa in Ratmalana. (Newswire)
