A decision has been taken to include at least 20 more check-in counters at the Katunayake Airport due to the increase in tourist arrivals.
The decision was taken during a special discussion held at the airport under the aegis of Minister of Civil Aviation Bimal Rathnayake.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, an inspection of the airport was carried out to determine the locations for the additional check-in counters.
During the discussion, Minister of Civil Aviation Bimal Rathnayake also instructed the authorities to take measures to expand airport facilities as much as possible since tourist arrivals are rapidly increasing.
The government expects to attract 12 million air passengers by the year 2028, while the authorities have also decided to invite organizations at other International Airports to Sri Lanka.
