President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will embark on a visit to Jaffna in the Northern Province tomorrow (Jan 31), the first following the election of the National People’s Power (NPP) government.
During his visit, the President will engage in discussions in the Valvettithurai and Chavakachcheri areas.
President Dissanayake is also set to participate in a meeting of the Jaffna District Coordination Committee tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the North-Eastern Unemployed Graduates Association launched a fast unto death in front of the Northern Province Governor’s Office yesterday (Jan 29).
The protesters claim that even though several political parties had made promises to grant jobs to unemployed graduates, around 21000 graduates remain unemployed in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.
They further requested the authorities to grant employment to the graduates without competitive examinations.
According to media reports, the strike has been launched to draw the attention of the President to their issues, while he may also engage in talks with representatives during his visit. (Newswire)
