A fire that broke out in a container at Bandaranaike Quay IV (BQ IV) in the Port of Colombo on Thursday (Jan 30) has been contained by a Sri Lanka Navy firefighting team from the Western Naval Command.
The fire was reported around 7:45 p.m. when smoke was seen emanating from the container. In response, the Colombo Port Control Office requested assistance from the Navy’s specialized Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) unit.
Navy firefighters, along with port workers and the port fire brigade, managed to unlock the container and remove burning cleaning chemicals, preventing further spread. (Newswire)
