Police lifeguards rescued four Russian nationals in two separate drowning incidents along Sri Lanka’s southwestern coast on Feb. 6, authorities said.
In the first incident, a 38-year-old Russian man was swept away by strong currents while swimming at Ahungalla Beach in the evening. Officers from the Ahungalla Police Lifeguard Unit, including Inspector Manoj Ariyarathna and Constables Sangeeth and Kumar, pulled him to safety.
Earlier that morning, three Russian tourists—a 27-year-old woman and two men, aged 42 and 71—were caught in rough waters at Hikkaduwa Beach. Officers from the Hikkaduwa Police Lifeguard Unit, including Sub-Inspector Sirimal and Constables Duminda, Kumar, and Jayasinghe, rescued them.
All four individuals were unharmed.
