Four people died, and more than 20 others were injured in a bus accident on the Dambulla-Kurunegala main road in the Doratiyawa Police Division, authorities said.
Police reported that the crash occurred when a privately owned passenger bus traveling from Kanduruwela to Colombo stopped to pick up passengers. Another private bus, traveling in the same direction, collided with the rear of the stationary vehicle.
The injured were taken to Kurunegala Hospital, where three men and one woman died.
Initial investigations indicate that excessive speed was a factor in the crash, according to police.
