Five fatal road accidents reported

Sri Lanka witnessed five separate fatal road accidents on February 11, 2025, resulting in multiple casualties across different areas. The incidents occurred in Kilinochchi, Sevanagala, Hikkaduwa, Agalawatta, and Kahatuduwa Police divisions.

  • Kilinochchi bus accident claims pedestrian’s life

A pedestrian was fatally injured when a bus traveling from Vavuniya to Paranthan collided with him near the Paranthan Junction on the A09 road in Kilinochchi. The 46-year-old victim, a resident of Paranthan, succumbed to his injuries upon admission to the Kilinochchi Hospital. The bus driver has been taken into Police custody.

  • Tractor overturns in Sevanagala, killing one

A tractor lost control and overturned into a canal between the 6th and 7th-kilometer posts on the Kiribbanwila-Handiya-Hatporuwa Road in Sevanagala. Among the three injured passengers admitted to Sevanagala Hospital, one succumbed to his injuries. The deceased was a 54-year-old resident of Waduramba.

  • Motorcyclist dies in Hikkaduwa collision

A collision between a motorcycle and a lorry took place at the Kumarakanda Junction on the Colombo-Galle Road in Hikkaduwa. The motorcycle, heading towards Galle, crashed into the lorry arriving from the opposite direction. The 55-year-old motorcyclist from Ambalangoda was pronounced dead at Karapitiya Hospital. The lorry driver has been arrested, and Police investigations are underway.

  • Police Sergeant dies in Agalawatta Three-Wheeler Crash

A Police sergeant lost his life in Agalawatta when a Police three-wheeler carrying a suspect and case materials from the Bulathsinhala Police Station to the Matugama Magistrate’s Court veered off the road and crashed into a milestone. The deceased, a 50-year-old sergeant attached to the Bulathsinhala Police, was identified as Officer Gunawardena. The suspect and a Constable also sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at Pimbura Hospital.

  • Motorcyclist killed in Kahatuduwa

A female motorcyclist lost control of her vehicle near the Polgasowita Junction on the Horana-Colombo Road, resulting in a fatal accident. The 47-year-old victim, a resident of Piliyandala, succumbed to her injuries upon admission to the Wethara Hospital. Her remains have been placed at the Homagama Hospital mortuary.
