RENOWNED GERMAN HORN VIRTUOSO TO CONDUCT MASTERCLASSES IN SRI LANKA

Sri Lanka is set to witness a momentous occasion in its classical music scene as Professor Peter Arnold, one of the most distinguished horn players in the world, arrives to conduct an exclusive series of masterclasses and a recital in Colombo. This extraordinary initiative, hosted by the Gustav Mahler Society of Colombo (GMSC) in collaboration with Musicmatters Sri Lanka, marks a significant step towards enriching the nation’s classical music landscape.

From February 13th to 15th, 2025, Professor Arnold (former principal horn player of the Essen Philharmonic, the SWR Radio Orchestra, and the German Radio Philharmonic) is set to take aspiring musicians under his wing. This is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Sri Lankan horn players and classical music enthusiasts to learn from a true maestro, whose extensive career spans performing, teaching, and directing the celebrated ‘Hornissimo’ festival in Europe.

The masterclasses, to be held at Musicmatters Sri Lanka on Vauxhall Street, Colombo 02 will be open to all and offered free of charge. This initiative aims to provide access to world-class musical education, allowing local musicians to refine their skills under the guidance of a globally acclaimed artist.

The event will culminate in an enchanting morning recital on February 15that Musicmatters, starting from 11:00 AM onwards. This recital will feature a remarkable repertoire, including works by Mozart, Camille Saint-Saëns, Eric Ewazen, and various horn ensemble compositions. Entrance to the recital will be by programme, ensuring a curated and intimate experience for attendees.
