Three Russian female tourists were rescued from drowning at Hikkaduwa Beach on the evening of February 10, 2025.
The incident occurred when the tourists, aged 33, 40, and 43, were caught in a powerful water current while swimming. As they were being swept away, officers from the Hikkaduwa Police Lifeguard Unit swiftly intervened and safely brought them ashore.
The rescue operation was carried out by Sub-Inspector Sirimal, along with Police Constables 96221 Duminda, 27794 Bandara, and 101510 Kumara, who were on duty at the time.
Authorities continue to urge beachgoers, particularly tourists unfamiliar with local sea conditions, to exercise caution and adhere to safety warnings when swimming in coastal areas.
