The Legal Officers’ Association of the Attorney General’s Department has expressed concern over what it says are factually incorrect and misleading media reports regarding legal advice issued by the Attorney General on Jan. 27.
In a statement released Wednesday, the association emphasized that proper procedures were followed in advising the discharge of three suspects. It said the decision was made based on all relevant material facts and legal considerations, asserting that political or public opinion did not influence the outcome.
“The hallmark of an independent Attorney General’s Department is making decisions without regard to political repercussions or public approval,” the statement read.
The association reaffirmed its confidence in the Attorney General and the involved officers, stressing their commitment to independent professional judgment. It also warned that it would oppose any efforts to remove the Attorney General from office.
