Police investigations reveal that the accident involving the vehicle of Puttalam District NPP MP Mohamed Faisal had been caused due to the driver falling asleep at the wheel.
According to the Police, the MP’s vehicle travelling from Madampe to Thoppuwa along the B-419 area in the Koswatte Police Division had collided with a motorcycle in the Haldanduwana area in Chilaw.
The 65-year-old motorcyclist, a resident of Wennappuwa, had sustained serious injuries in the accident and died after being admitted to the Dankotuwa Hospital.
The Police said the accident had taken place when the MP was travelling to attend today’s Parliament sittings.
The driver of the MP’s car, believed to be his relative, has been taken into custody, while the Koswatte Police is conducting further investigations into the accident. (Newswire)
