During the presentation of the 2024 budget, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake took a lighthearted dig at opposition MP Harsha de Silva regarding his recent controversy over losing the Colombo District leadership of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) to Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.
While addressing Parliament, the President humorously remarked, “Harsha, I can’t give you everything you ask for. How can I give you the Colombo District leadership? I simply can’t give it to you.”
The remark, which was met with laughter from certain members of the Parliament, was a clear reference to the internal power struggles within the SJB. MP Harsha de Silva had recently expressed his dissatisfaction after Sajith Premadasa was granted the Colombo District leadership, sidelining his aspirations for the role.
