The gunman in the Hulftsdorp Court Complex shooting has been identified as a suspect wanted in connection to several shooting incidents reported in the recent past, Police Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manatunga said.
Briefing the media on the shooting that killed underworld kingpin Genamulla Sanjeewa today, the Police Spokesman said court proceedings are underway against the gunman in connection to the previous shooting incidents.
It is reported that the gunman was involved in the double murder reported in the Watarappala area in Dehiwala recently.
The Police Spokesman further said that his accomplice, a woman, had been identified as a drug racketeer.
SSP Manatunga said the duo had dressed like lawyers to enter the court premises, with the woman having passed the revolver used in the shooting to the gunman at the court complex.
He further said following the shooting, the suspect had escaped by claiming a shooting had occurred inside, exiting the courthouse along with other lawyers.
Stating that the suspect has been identified and is a wanted gunman, the Police Spokesman expressed confidence in apprehending him soon.
He added that measures have also been taken to inform immigration officials and tighten security at the airport, to prevent the suspect from fleeing the country. (Newswire)
